Sports activities

Wild Fitness Club

Wild Fitness is our sports program, built around the exceptional natural setting that surrounds Dragón.

Two students in helmets ride mountain bikes along a muddy mountain track.

At Dragón, the American School of Torrelodones, closeness to nature has always been part of the plan. It is no accident that we are where we are: we make the most of our setting so that our students can get out into it.

Wild Fitness offers outdoor sports that are enjoyable and genuinely demanding, calling for real fitness and for the technique each one needs.

It is a “wild” way into the physics and mathematics behind sporting technique, and behind the safety measures that go with it.

Wild Fitness is a living program, always growing and changing, and it can also support students competing at a high level.

Activities

We start from six activities, and new themes grow out of them all the time, usually proposed by the students themselves:

  • Zip lines

  • Kayaking

  • Climbing

  • Mountain biking

  • Skiing

  • Surfing

Is it really sport?

It certainly is. Every Wild Fitness activity is a sport, and a demanding one both physically and technically. Each is adapted to the age, development and ability of every student so that they are safe and enjoy themselves.

They call for fitness, training, knowledge and steady work on technique.

Is it competitive?

Not necessarily. Unlike football or basketball, which make no sense without competition — one team always plays another — Wild Fitness activities are practiced for the pleasure of doing them, with no need to compete.

That said, students who do want to compete in any of these disciplines have the school’s full support in whatever competitions they choose.

How are these activities organized?

  • Wild Fitness is part of the school curriculum

Students from Grade 1 to Grade 12 take part during the school day. These activities are part of the academic timetable and CARRY NO ADDITIONAL COST: Wild Fitness is a subject like any other at Dragón. Students choose it as they would any other, and the teacher proposes each week’s activity according to the season, the weather and so on. Families are told in good time so that students come with the right kit.

  • Free use of the facilities

In their free time during school hours, students may use the facilities that are available, always following the rules and with any permission required (the climbing wall, for example). Those not enrolled in classes, whether inside or outside school hours, do so without technical instruction or supervision.

  • Outings and trips

Wild Fitness outings are organized for interested students: half a day, a full day, a week, camps and so on, both during term and in the holidays.
