Food and well-being

Dragón, the American School of Torrelodones, believes in eating well and eating thoughtfully: it is good for how students feel, how they work and how they grow.

Food is central to how students develop. We design balanced menus made with fresh, local, sustainable ingredients, free of ultra-processed food and added sugars, and always matched to each stage of growing up.

Food and well-being: a balance that matters

  • Varied, balanced menus

Designed to meet the nutritional needs of each stage of school and to make a healthy diet the normal one.

  • Fresh, local produce

We choose local, seasonal ingredients so that meals are fresh and good.

  • Menus for particular diets

We offer gluten-free, lactose-free and vegan options, with no ultra-processed food and no added sugars, so that every student eats well.

  • Learning about food

Students take part in activities that show them why eating well matters.

A place that looks after body and mind

  • Mindfulness and emotional skills

Attention and relaxation techniques that help students concentrate and feel less stressed.

  • Daily sport and movement

Physical activity is part of growing up and part of emotional balance.

  • A natural, sustainable setting

Our eco campus, free of pollution, is good for students’ health and well-being.

Food and well-being are not separate subjects here: they are part of how we understand education as a whole.

A well-fed body and a settled mind are what let each student reach as far as they can.

  • Healthy food

Our food program offers balanced menus with fresh local ingredients, matched to each stage of growing up. Alongside it come workshops, work in the school garden and learning about eating habits that feed both body and mind, and that show in how students work.

  • A sustainable setting

Set in the Sierra de Guadarrama, we have green spaces, outdoor classrooms and teaching gardens that connect students with nature. We practice recycling and composting in a setting that lowers stress, stirs creativity and builds respect for the environment.

  • The whole student

We run mindfulness programs by age group, where students learn breathing, meditation and how to steady themselves. These practices help them handle stress, concentrate better and meet difficulties calmly.
