Technological balance: how AI has a positive impact on mental health at Dragon American School

At Dragon American School, we are actively addressing the relationship between our students’ mental health and technology, especially after the challenges brought by the pandemic. While we have decided to ban cell phones at school to reduce the anxiety associated with social media, we have taken an innovative approach by giving students access to artificial intelligence (AI) tools.
Exploring new horizons: access to AI tools for students
Banning cell phones may seem drastic, but the decision comes from our aim to reduce dependence on social media and foster an environment more focused on learning. At the same time, introducing AI tools gives our students the opportunity to explore technology in an educational and creative way.
Building self-esteem: the positive impact of AI on students
The exciting thing is that we have seen a positive impact on the self-esteem and emotional well-being of our students who use AI. Unlike the anxiety that social media can cause, AI has given students a sense of empowerment, as if they had technological “superpowers”. This change has allowed them to take on challenges, solve problems and connect with their self-image in a new way.
Seeking balance: Dragon American School’s unique strategy
Ultimately, Dragon American School is seeking a balance between promoting a healthy mind and the thoughtful use of technology. Our combination of banning cell phones at school and introducing AI tools has proven to be an effective strategy for improving mental health and building self-esteem among our students. This unique approach could serve as inspiration for other educational institutions looking for innovative solutions to today’s challenges around technology and young people’s emotional well-being.
