Innovation in education

The education of the future is already here in Torrelodones. At Dragon American School

If, when choosing the best education for your children, you have already looked at the most innovative methods used in the United States —or, closer to home, in the Nordic countries with their proven education systems—, Dragon American School has a lot to tell you.

Personalization. Innovative methods serving a more human school

Choosing an innovative school today should no longer be seen as a risk. Research shows that, if anything, it is an opportunity, and many voices are already calling for these teaching methods to be adopted at every level of education.

Moving from learning based on memory to learning based on active thinking is one of the keys to our teaching method, in which motivation is the key to conscious, solid learning at every stage we offer, from early childhood to university.

A decade of applying agile methodologies to teaching lets us approach each teaching period as a short, term-long sprint, after which we assess, measure, and either adjust or continue each student’s personalized academic pathway.

Complementary subjects and classes at different levels

This personalization is also clear in the choice of complementary subjects from a wide range of options based on each student’s interests and abilities, which means that no two schedules in the whole school are the same.

Or in the possibility of attending classes in different grades depending on the student’s academic or personal development in each subject.

A hybrid or fully online education is also available to families who need it.

Our choice not to have a uniform is also visible. We respect our students’ integrity and freedom of expression, and we are proud of the unique originality each of them shows through their clothes.

Independence and decision-making: learning based on thinking

Drawing on highly regarded approaches such as Thinking Based Learning and “learning by doing”, we have developed a method through which we also support students throughout the learning process.

Solving problems and making decisions independently, exercising sound judgment in an increasingly complex world, or cultivating a critical mind through subjects such as philosophy are some of the things we work on in the classroom.

English with native speakers from the earliest age: the only magic formula for your children to master the language. The case of Dragon Fly

Dragon American School is an American school, and a foreign school authorized by the Community of Madrid. Many of our teachers are native speakers from countries such as the United States, Canada and the United Kingdom.

Only by being immersed in a native-speaking environment from the earliest ages is it possible to achieve the right pronunciation and absorb the language well enough to use it fluently in the future.

That is also how we work at Dragon Fly, Dragón’s early years school for children aged 2 to 5, where, with the support of native-speaking teachers, children take on English as the working language of their routines and talk to their teachers in it, while also being supported by teachers who speak their mother tongue.

At Dragon American School, English is neither learned nor taught. It is lived. That is how we help your child reach the level they need to use the language comfortably and confidently in the future.

Their chance to learn English for life is now.

A proven track record

In our 12 years of experience in educational innovation, our method has earned several awards, such as the European Award for Business Innovation and Digitalization, the 10th El Suplemento Awards, the Educational Excellence Awards, and a place on the Forbes list of the 50 best schools.

Located at the gateway to the Sierra de Guadarrama, in a unique natural setting, the school’s own architecture invites dialogue and participation as well as experimentation with its surroundings: a space for work, discovery and debate that our students often head out to explore.

We are also proud of our organic, ecological kitchen, where Héctor cooks every morning with a vegan option, and of the zero-bullying policy that is a priority in the emotional work carried out throughout students’ school years.
